The FurlongŪ H-A.C. Total Knee Replacement

The Furlong® H-A.C. Total Knee Replacement

In 1995 the Furlong® range of prostheses was expanded to incorporate total knee replacements. The H-A.C. Total Knee follows on from the success of the Furlong® H-A.C. Total Hip. The advanced Supravit® H-A.C. coating coalesces the implant with the host bone for an unparalleled physiological bond.

A prospective comparative study indicates excellent clinical results at five years. The cemented T.K.R. expands the range of surgical options, drawing on over 30 years experience with cemented implants. It too has shown excellent results since its inception.

The Furlong® T.K.R. system is fully modular and both coated and cemented varients are fully compatible with each other. Both systems utilise the same compact instrumentation set to produce consistent results. This makes the Furlong® Total Knee Replacement a truly versatile system, catering for a multitude of surgical requirements.

Femoral Components
Femoral Components Supravit® H-A.C. coated and cemented components available for a multitude of surgical options.
Cast Cobalt-chromium alloy for high strength, proven wear resistance and biocompatibility.
J - shaped geometry reproduces the anatomic joint kinematics.
Higher posterior condyles with smaller radii offer improved range of movement in increased angles of flexion.
Flexion/extension gap equivalence is preserved as both distal and posterior condyles are of the same thickness.
Deeper, flared patellar groove provides correct patellar tracking during flexion and extension.

Tibial Trays
Tibial Trays Supravit® H-A.C. coated and cemented trays available for a multitude of surgical options.
Titanium alloy for superior fatigue strength and biocompatibility.
Tri-keel configuration with posterior sweep to engage in best quality bone for good primary fixation.
Increased area of keel resists both titling and rotation.
Keels have a distal double-taper to resist descent.
Shape of tray offers enhanced bone coverage.
Four anti-rotation pegs (H-A.C. version) are strategically located in the densest cancellous bone to enhance implant stability.
No base plate holes eliminating stress raisers and precluding polyethylene migration.
Posterior slope of tibial surfaces encourages femoral roll back and gives added flexion.
Five sizes of tray provide a comprehensive range

Tibial Inserts
Tibial Inserts Recent studies have shown heat pressed ultra - high - molecular - weight - polyethylene (U.H.M.W.P.E.) to be susceptible to subsurface fatigue defects, manifested as delamination and surface pitting. In contrast all Furlong® inserts are CNC machined to an extremely smooth surface finish for increased wear resistance in preference to heat pressing.
Femoro-tibial articulation has a large contact area achieved by flat-on-flat geometry leading to reduced stress and decreased polyethylene wear.
Tibial inserts permit the interchangeability of femoral and tibial implants providing a precise fit.
U.H.M.W.P inserts are secured by three locking mechanisms.
Available in 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16mm thicknesses.
Anterior insertion of inserts simplifies surgical technique.
Minimum thickness of 8mm to prevent creep.

Patellar
Patellar Supravit® H-A.C. coated and cemented components available for a multitude of surgical options.
Three-peg configuration ensures stable fixation providing increased resistance to toggling and rotation, without weakening the patella.
Curvature of patella closely follows the femoral patellar groove, ensuring decreased stress and reduced wear.
Constant patello-femoral radius ensures smooth patellar tracking.
Comprehensive range of four sizes for optimum bone converage.
